Thanks for an amazing 2025 event!

We persevered the weather and came through with a great event. Thank you all — pilots, officials, sponsors, volunteers, balloon fans, entertainers, vendors, and everyone else — for making the 48th annual Great Texas Balloon Race. We’re going to get a little rest and start looking forward to next year!

A World Class Balloon Festival

Considered by many of the pilots that compete at the Great Texas Balloon Race to be the best run event on the circuit, the Great Texas Balloon Race earned Longview the official designation as “The Balloon Capital of Texas” by the Governor of Texas in 1985. In 2013 Gregg County was proclaimed “The Balloon Race Capital of Texas” by the 83rd Texas Legislature.

Special Shapes & Model Balloons

Our special shape balloons will inflate at various locations around Longview on Friday and Saturday morning. Inflations are set 7-7:45 a.m.

For the third time this year, the Great Texas Balloon Race will include the flight of “model” hot air balloons. The slightly smaller balloons are still powered by propane but are steered by a remote pilot on the ground and do not have a basket — kind of like a model airplane. These balloons won’t be competing in the Great Texas Balloon Race, but balloon fans can catch them June 13 and 14 during the event.

Evening inflations at the event grounds will be at 8:50 p.m. during the balloon glow.
